Layout Design[UI Design]

R.layout.single_item

As we know the usual way to associate a menu to it is to use popup.getMenuInflater().inflate(R.menu.menu_item, popup.getMenu());

Suppose , we will create the popup menu registering the view the popup will show underneath and use the getMenu() method to add the values. Don't forget to call show();

we need to menu_item.xml in /res/menu directory then only we can call the menu item in android

MainActivity[MainActivity.class]

package com.androidfeeders.popupmenusample;

import android.support.v7.app.AppCompatActivity;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.view.MenuItem;
import android.view.View;
import android.widget.PopupMenu;
import android.widget.TextView;
import android.widget.Toast;

public class MainActivity extends AppCompatActivity implements View.OnClickListener, PopupMenu.OnMenuItemClickListener {

    TextView textView;

    @Override
    protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
        setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);

        textView=(TextView)findViewById(R.id.text_view);
        textView.setOnClickListener(this);
    }

    @Override
    public void onClick(View view) {

        PopupMenu popupMenu=new PopupMenu(MainActivity.this,textView);
        popupMenu.getMenuInflater().inflate(R.menu.mainmenu,popupMenu.getMenu());
        popupMenu.setOnMenuItemClickListener(this);
        popupMenu.show();

    }

    public void showToastMessage(String message) {
        Toast.makeText(MainActivity.this, message, Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
    }

    @Override
    public boolean onMenuItemClick(MenuItem menuItem) {

        showToastMessage((String) menuItem.getTitle());
        return true;
    }
}
